Brick by brick

Yesterday 2 rounds of thunderstorms wiped out the work day. It was more of a wipe up day.
Temperatures lower today and work resumed. The brickwork on Vinewood rises

I was able to climb out on the scaffolding at the 2nd floor level as Tom showed me the wire "locks" used every 6 rows to attach brick to cinder block!

The carpenters are busy on the roofline and placing aluminum studs for interior walls.

Masons are cleaning up debris on lawn and neatly piling materials for the Fireworks on Friday night.

If you are down for the Parade on the 4th, look up as you pass to see the structure in person.

What stories the house could tell of parades gone by. Many people return to the same location to view the parade each year and we have always been a favorite spot because of our shade.

If you have a parade or fireworks story to tell leave a comment on this blog.

Slowly coming together

This week carpentry began for the roof lines.

Steps were prepared and poured.

Best of all, the exterior brick arrived and the masons returned to start the courses. One window area has the keystone and arch laid.

As we proceed with new construction, unfortunately the old Wyandotte Theatre is almost at going, going, gone status!

Other movie houses in town were the Majestic and the Rialto. Perhaps you remember seeing the Saturday serials or getting a free piece of glassware at one of the shows. We'd be glad to hear your stories. You can comment on the blog or send an email to jcashin@baconlibrary.org

Thanks for the memories...

Photos are from the historic photos collection at Bacon Library. More photos of Wyandotte's past can be viewed from our website www.baconlibrary.org

Monday and Tuesday, masons continued North wall block and floor decks were installed.

Wednesday morning the cement truck and piping system arrived for the 1st pour onto the 3rd floor landing.

Window frames

More progress--part of the exterior walls are constructed and window openings taking shape for 3 on the north side of structure.

Opening to the 3rd floor entry coming off the landing--yet to be built.

And with all the work up above, the dumpsters get filled and replaced often even in a tight squeeze by the utility pole.

We are assured that steel work begins on Saturday and cement to be poured on Tuesday--as always weather permitting. They are carefully watching the sky today as it has gotten very overcast by 1PM and there is that chance of a thunderstorm.
